Yawgoog Leadership Experience

PROGRAM This program is designed to help Scouts grow in self-confidence and self-direction; develop leadership ability and the strengths expected of a leader, and to afford them the opportunity to test their merit as potential staff members. The program includes orientation, observation, and participation in camp leadership and introduces scouts to new challenges. A great way to prepare for a career on the Yawgoog Staff. PROCEDURE: Registration is available online HERE to attend the Y.L.E. program. YLE is open to both male and female scouts and must be at least 14 years of age. |

LEADERSHIP WEEK The Yawgoog Leadership Experience program begins with a "Leadership" week where the scouts spend time learning the skills necessary for good leadership. They work closely with our staff and are given the opportunity to investigate aspects of every program center at camp. EXPERIENCE WEEK Upon completion of the Leadership week, Scouts are encouraged to return for "Experience" weeks where they work in one of Yawgoog's many departments. Scouts get the opportunity to observe staff in action during their Leadership week to help them decide where to Experience. Experience weeks provide an opportunity to practice teaching and leadership skills in an apprentice role. They offer an excellent way to sample various parts of the Yawgoog staff. |

IMPORTANCE OF AN EARLY START: Scouts are encouraged to begin early in the summer, preferably the first week of camp. THE TROOP'S WEEK AT CAMP: Scouts will not be allowed to participate in the Yawgoog Leadership Experience during the week that their troop is in camp. Their place is with their troop at that time. LIVING QUARTERS: Scouts will be housed at Campsite Minnikesu in Camp Medicine Bow. COST: The cost of the two-week program is $500. Extra field weeks are $200 each. |

LAYOVER PERIOD YLE Scouts will be given free time leading into their Experience Week from Sunday following the Court of Honor until Monday at 2:00 PM. Parents provide transportation home and back to camp. YLE Scouts must check out with a member of the YLE staff before leaving. If YLE Scouts opt to stay with the YLE program overnight, they are required to stay on the Reservation and be accounted for at all times by the YLE staff. |
