If you are at least fourteen years of age or will turn fourteen by July 1, 2012, a fantastic opportunity is awaiting you this summer at Yawgoog --- The Counselor-in-Training Corps. The CIT Corps at Yawgoog is considered one of the finest in the country. It is a unique opportunity to increase your leadership skills and developing potential as a future Yawgoog staff man.
Your experience as CIT begins with a week of learning and observation in leadership and service, aimed at helping you to develop good skills and a proper attitude in these areas. You will accomplish this through participation and a busy schedule of training and activities carried out by many top members of the Yawgoog staff.
After successful completion of your basic week, you are encouraged to apply what you have learned by staying additional weeks as a field CIT. Field weeks are your opportunity to use your leadership ability while working with the staff in departments of your choice. You may wish to learn what it is like to work as a Waterfront, Nature, or Kitchen counselor, for example. This is your chance. We invite you to remain for as many field weeks as you wish if your performance keeps up with the high standards of The Corps.
Sound discipline based on the Scout Oath and Law, cleanliness of mind and body, outstanding quality of character and leadership, and good health and physical fitness are all fundamental aspects of the program. Candidates can expect all this of the Corps; we expect it of them.
Even if you have not though of becoming a Yawgoog staffman, the CIT Corps is extremely valuable at training Troop Leaders and Leaders-to-be. Scouts who have become CITs have found the experience one of the best and most worthwhile they have ever gone through. Fill out the application, have it signed by a parent and your scoutmaster, and return it to Scout Headquarters in Providence, RI. You should try to begin early in the summer to have an opportunity to develop fully in the program.

THE COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING CORPS AT YAWGOOG SCOUT RESERVATION
PROGRAM
This program is designed to help Scouts grow in self-confidence and self-direction, develop leadership ability and the strengths expected of a leader, and to afford them the opportunity to test their merit as potential staff members. The program includes orientation, observation, and participation in camp leadership.
PROCEDURE
Registration is available through this web site, or by printing a registration and mailing. To attend the C.I.T. Corps, a Scout must be at least 14 years of age .
ACCEPTANCE AND ASSIGNMENT
. Candidates should plan to report Sunday no later than 6:00 P.M. The C.I.T. Corps is located in Camp Medicine Bow. Each C.I.T. week concludes with a brief Court of Honor after the Dress Parade the following Sunday.
BASIC WEEK
The Counselor-In-Training program begins with a "basic" week where the C.I.T.'s spend time learning the skills necessary for good leadership. They work closely with one of the program centers to prepare a demonstration that interests them and that showcases what they've learned during their week in the C.I.T. Corps. Tenure in the CIT Corps is based on satisfactory weekly ratings.
FIELD WEEKS
Upon completion of the basic week, CITs are encouraged to return for "field" weeks where they work in one of Yawgoog's many departments. CITs get the opportunity to observe staff in action during their basic week to help them decide where to field. Field weeks provide an opportunity to practice teaching and leadership skills in an apprentice role. They offer an excellent way to sample various parts of the Yawgoog staff.
CIT RECORDS
Scoutmasters and parents are urged to consult with the C.I.T. Corps Scoutmaster if they have any questions relating to a C.I.T. All ratings are reviewed completely with the C.I.T. as a method of encouraging improvement. We invite all Scoutmasters to review these records for their Scouts who participate in this program. The C.I.T. Corps staff is constantly evaluating and coaching C.I.T.'s. Your involvement helps this process immensely.
IMPORTANCE OF AN EARLY START
C.I.T. candidates should make every effort to begin early in the summer, preferably the first week of camp.
THE TROOP'S WEEK AT CAMP
A C.I.T. will not be allowed to serve in the Corps during the week that his troop is in camp. His place is with his troop at that time.
LAYOVER PERIOD
Each field C.I.T. will be given free time from Sunday following the Court of Honor until Monday at 4:00 PM. Parents provide transportation home and back to camp. C.I.T.'s must check out with a member of the C.I.T. Corps staff before leaving. If C.I.T.'s opt to stay with the C.I.T. Corps, they are required to stay on the Reservation and be accounted for at all times.
LIVING QUARTERS
CITs will be housed at Campsite Minnikesu in Camp Medicine Bow.
